Phoenix City Retaliators

Phoenix City Retaliators – live at Jazzcafé Dizzy in Rotterdam

Rotterdam ska band Phoenix City Retaliators consists of seven dedicated musicians with deep roots in the Dutch ska and reggae scene. Their name pays tribute to Rotterdam, a city that rose from the ashes like a phoenix to become a vibrant metropolis. With their energetic, danceable music and infectious positive vibe, they bring the spirit of ska to life.

Since 2012, Phoenix City Retaliators have established themselves as a regular fixture on stages across the Netherlands. Over the years, they have developed a distinctive sound that is raw, rebellious and dynamic. Driving dance rhythms, powerful horns, rich vocal harmonies and captivating solos form the backbone of their music. Influences from jazz, funk, latin, punk and even metal give their sound an unmistakable edge, while their love and respect for authentic Jamaican ska, rocksteady and early reggae remain at its heart.

With their infectious Jamaican dance music, they have set audiences in motion at venues and festivals across the country. Performances at events such as De Nacht van de Kaap, Bevrijdingsfestival Zuid-Holland and Rotterdam Unlimited, as well as supporting legendary ska bands such as The Slackers, Jaya the Cat, Dub Pistols, David Hillyard and the Rocksteady Seven and The Toasters, speak to their reputation as a powerful live act.
