05-12-2018 Dizzy Moon 11: Tamara Woestenburg + Nana
5 December 2018 @ 21:00
Eleventh edition of singer-songwriter series Dizzy Moon, hosted by Mark Ritsema and powered by Popunie. Free entrance.
Influenced by David Bowie and Jeff Buckley as well as Bob Dylan, Tamara Woestenburg moves somewhere between the traditional (pop) song and the experiment. This translates itself into intense live shows with a major role for her warm and expressive vocals. On her first EP she was reinforced by jazz musicians like Benjamin Herman and Gideon van Gelder. Her debut album The Colony (2017) was inspired by a short visit to New York and typical acts from this metropole like Patti Smith and Talking Heads. The Colony was produced by Kramer, a well known name in underground music as producer and musician for bands like Shockabilly, Butthole Surfers and Ween. Recently Woestenburg and Kramer started working on her second album.
With a voice that switches from strengthful and deep to higher, more vulnerable registers, the melancholic music of Rotterdam based artist Nana evokes emotion. Piano songs that navigate between stormy and intimate, about the power of heartache and love itself, wrapped in a mixture of alternative pop with classical, cinematic influences. At the end of 2017 Nana released her first, well received EP Meus x Mea. As Papercut Magazine put it: ‘Laura Marling-esque vocals guided by the impassioned soul of Jeff Buckley […] These songs are atmospheric and intimate all at once’.
