19-09-2018 Dizzy Moon 06: Katie Kruel Acoustic / MOWA
19 September 2018 @ 21:00
Sixth edition of singer-songwriter series Dizzy Moon, hosted by Mark Ritsema and powered by Popunie. Free entrance.
Kruel2 / Katie Kruel Acoustic
One of Rotterdam’s loudest bands will play unplugged at Dizzy Moon. Grinding rock and slowcore usually dominate gigs like archaic rituals of this ruthless quartet, fronted by the hollering singer Nathalie Houtermans. But they were also named after the haunting traditional Scottish/American folksong Katie Cruel (best known in the 1971-version of Karen Dalton). In a semi-acoustic setting Katie Kruel – reduced to the trio Kruel2 – will show a more bluesy and sweltering side of the band. Think The Gun Club and (who else) Karen Dalton.
Nathalie Houtermans – vocals
Hans Dirx – guitar
Jacob van der Linden – bass, percussion
MOWA (formerly known as Moonflower Warrior)
Duo MOWA describe their songs as ‘music to support the emotional rituals of nature, inspired by The Carpenters, the dissonant Franz Liszt and Nico in her late days’. Singer, multi-instrumentalist and visual artist Xenia Gott is gifted with a dark power voice and with her intense stage presence, brings heroines like Patti Smith and P.J. Harvey to mind. Jacco Weener is an experimental singer-songwriter and performance artist whose work is often ritualistic and religious related. And so are the dark spirituals of MOWA.
Xenia Gott – vocals, electronics
Jacco Weener – electronics, voice
