23-01-2019 Dizzy Moon Special: Sommerhus
23 January 2019 @ 21:30
14th edition of singer-songwriter series Dizzy Moon, hosted by Mark Ritsema and powered by Popunie. Free entrance.
The first edition of Dizzy Moon 2019 is fully dedicated to Sommerhus. This Rotterdam based duo doesn’t play too much in clubs, often preferring to bring their quirky and intimate blend of melodic chamber pop and neo-classical music in living rooms and theatres. Especially for Dizzy Moon the duo will play two sets that present the best of their impressive and adventurous oeuvre, a retrospective of songs that is guaranteed to leave you in awe.
Sommerhus is the married couple Peter Jessen (vocals, double bass, effects) and Vera Jessen- Juhrend (vocals, acoustic guitar) and started writing and recording together around 2012. The two resulting albums Sommerhus (2013) and Is there Such A Thing As Too Much Love? (2016) are characterised by their razor sharp vocal harmonies, a catchy sense of melody, musical stillness and a daring experimental approach, in particular by classically trained Peter who also plays in the Dutch avant-garde band Rosa Ensemble.
The duo and their songs were part of the modern version of the opera L’Orfeo of Claudio Monteverdi for the Rotterdamse Operadagen 2015. Currently they wrote and recorded songs that are based on the poems of Joz Knoop, released as singles on You Tube with artistic video clips. Their urge for musical adventure and development is counterweighted by their plain and heartbreaking versions of the classic torch songs of The Everly Brothers. Some of those will surely be heard at Dizzy Moon.
