25-08-2018 Dizzy Summer Series: Ferhat Oz Special Support Session
25 August 2018 @ 21:30€5,00
Ferhat Oz is a well known Turkish jazz singer, living and working in Rotterdam. After finishing his master degree at Codarts he is performing with different ensembles, exploring different styles and working on his debut album. From old school jazz to more modern, groovy sounds: Ferhat Oz is a good example of versatility in vocal jazz.
Recently the Dutch Ministry of Culture declined his new visa. They were not convinced that Ferhat was an unique and original addition to Dutch music scene. Lets show them that he is! (Also see below the letter of recommendation from our booker). We kindly invite all musicians to join this special support. Tickets 5 euro. 100% for Ferhat Oz to cover legal costs to appeal. Line-up TBA.
This concert is part of the “One World, One Voice” series at Dizzy
Letter Of Recomendation
My name is Hanyo van Oosterom, creative director of City Groovez and producer at Numoonlab Recordings. I have booked international artists in Rotterdam like Amy Winehouse, Elvis Costello, George Duke, Archie Shepp, Baaba Maal, Randy Crawford & The Jazz Crusaders, Billy Preston, Mulatu Astatke, Ginger Baker and many more. See the linkedin link for more info: https://nl.linkedin.com/in/hanyo-van-oosterom-64917128
I currated festivals like World Port Jazz Festival, Rotterdam Import Festival and also founded the Numoon Festival. Currently i am the booker/currator at clubs like Jazzcafé Dizzy, Grounds Theatre and festivals like Nacht van de Kaap and Liberation Festival, all in Rotterdam the Netherlands.
As a producer and muli-instrumentalist i have produced and recorded albums with Colonel Red, Omar Ka, Anthony Joseph, Chi Factory, Michael Prins and recently Alexandra Alden.
In 2016-2017 i have booked a few shows of the Turkish jazz singer/composer Ferhat Oz, now living and working in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Lately at this event: https://www.facebook.com/events/119942108764783/
Ferhat Oz is now working on his new album, to be released in 2018 (TBA). I have invited him for the album release at Jazzcafé Dizzy. He is also on the shortlist as support act at Grounds in 2018-2019.
I consider Ferhat Oz to be one of the most talented young international artists in the Dutch (jazz)music scene. He has “found his voice” working with different composers and ensembles. He is ready to explore new ways in contemporary jazz. Rotterdam is the perfect environment to do so, the city “where the world meets”.
I have recently recommended Ferhat Oz, among a few other Rotterdam based artists, at the Womex 2017, the international World Music Expo where professionals (labels, festivals, clubs) in jazz and worldmusic meet. The first response was very promising.
I hope that Ferhat Oz will be able to stay in Rotterdam, where he did his masters and built his network of local jazzclubs and international jazz musicians. The next 2-3 years will be crucial to develop his own, personal style and to lay the foundation for an international carreer.
