Tres Ríos

Tres Ríos is a collective of son jarocho musicians from Mexico and Spain, directed by Leonardo Prieto.
They play son jarocho, a traditional music style from Veracruz, Mexico. This genre emerged from the blend of African, Spanish, and Indigenous influences during the colonial period, giving rise to a rich and vibrant musical tradition.
From the very beginning, Tres Ríos discovered a magical and distinctive sound through the meeting of exceptional musicians from Mexico and Spain—artists from traditions that are geographically distant but historically connected.
They are the first son jarocho ensemble based in the Netherlands, and in their short career they have attracted the attention of important venues and festivals, such as De Doelen, Grounds, Knapsack Festival, the Cobra Museum, and Heerenhuyskamerconcerten, among others.
The music is joyful, accessible, and filled with poetry—sometimes melancholic, sometimes energetic, always rooted in culture and history.
Their instrumental setup is rich and varied, featuring traditional Mexican guitars such as the jarana, leona, and requinto, alongside tap dancing (zapateado), percussion, violin, and double bass.
