Brazilian Jazz
Brazilian Jazz is alive at Dizzy – thanks in no small part to Jan Dumée, guitarist, composer, and Jazz Musician in Residence. Dumée is also well-known in Brazil as both a musician and arranger: an in-outsider of Brazilian jazz who combines a profound knowledge of the tradition with his own distinctive jazz language. Having led projects in Rio de Janeiro and worked with orchestras, ensembles, and soloists, he brings an authentic yet fresh perspective to every performance.
For this special night he invites Femke Smit, a Dutch vocalist with a strong Brazilian connection. With her group Cantorias she won the 2024 Edison Award in the National Vocal category. Her voice and phrasing bring a unique and personal color to Brazilian classics, bridging cultures with ease and elegance.
Together with René Ten Cate (vibraphone), Jeroen van der Ley (bass), and Wagner Vasconcelos (drums), the quintet will dive into the vibrant world of Brazilian Jazz — full of rhythm, lyricism, and improvisation.
