Movie nights – The connection

As summers end approaches, we’re delighted to present the second edition of Dizzy Movie Nights: ‘The Connection’ (1961) accompanied with live music. Scarcely shown since the 1980s, it is truly a forgotten gem in the jazz film repertoire.

Deeply inspired by jazz, avant-garde director Shirley Clarke (1919-1997) converted Jack Gelbers play into… well, is it documentary or fiction? The Connection tells the story of documentary maker Jim Dunn, who desperately tries to capture the raw life of eight junkies/jazz musicians waiting for their heroin dealer in a seedy New York apartment in the 60s. With composer Freddie Rudd and saxophonist Jacky McLean.

Exploring the crossroads of jazz and film, Dizzy Movie Nights are about combining authentic works from the past with live music in playful fashion. Grab a drink and a bite, lean back and immerse yourself in a unique experience of grainy black-and-white film with exciting live music.
