Pete La Roca was an influential American jazz drummer and composer, known for his work in the jazz and avant-garde scenes. Born on July 7, 1938, in New York City, he played with many notable musicians, including saxophonist John Coltrane and pianist McCoy Tyner. La Roca is particularly recognized for his innovative drumming style and contributions to the jazz fusion genre.
He released several albums as a bandleader, with “Basra” (1965) being one of his most acclaimed works. In addition to his drumming career, La Roca was also a skilled educator, teaching music in various institutions. He passed away on November 19, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and inspiration in the jazz world.
