Weedie Braimah comes from a long line of drummers, including his mother, Ann Morris, a respected jazz drummer, and his father, Oscar Sulley Braimah, a composer and master drummer. Braimah has been a performer, teacher and preserver of African culture for more than 30 years and continues to explore new musical crossovers every day. He also leads his own band, Weedie Braimah & The Hands of Time, where he offers the Djembe as a front featuring music from the diaspora. His band has performed in Europe, Cuba, Dubai and the United States, among other countries. Braimah’s debut album was also featured in Times Magazine as one of the 10 best albums of 2021.
Weedie Braimah exemplifies tradition, evolution and soul as he brings to life his vision of creating a reverence for West African folk music in the hope that it will evolve and find its place on the global music stages of jazz, funk, fusion, world music and hip hop, becoming the new face of African percussion both nationally and internationally.
