With his expressive sound, lyrical improvisations, and narrative compositions, saxophonist, composer, and bandleader Daan Kluwer (Utrecht, 1998) is one of the promises of the Dutch music scene.
With his Quartet, Daan dives into the depths of 20th-century sci-fi literature. Drawing from dystopian classics like George Orwell’s 1984 and Philip K. Dick’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the band creates music that pushes listeners to think critically about the direction of society.
They delve into themes like the rise of artificial intelligence, authoritarian regimes, climate change, and the ethical limits of genetic manipulation, with each composition serving as a chapter in a larger, unfolding story.
With a sound that combines electronic textures, post-rock elements, and cinematic soundscapes, the Quartet immerses listeners in a world that feels both futuristic and alarmingly close to home.
Line-up:
Daan Kluwer – saxophone
Jelle Willems – keys
William Barrett – double bass
Tim Hennekes – drums
