“LA ROFFA PROJECT”
LA Roffa Project is a group lead by Spanish trumpet player Antonio Peñalver, who is also the band’s composer and arranger. In the short lifespan of the group, they have already performed in both Spain and The Netherlands. Recently they have played at the North Sea Jazz Festival 2023, Codarts talent stage. Besides this they have already played around Rotterdam at De Doelen, Brand New Jazz Festival, Dizzy, and in the Yellow House sessions of Codarts.
Members of LA Roffa are from differet countries and of various cultural backgrounds: Spanish, Costa Rican and Dutch, but the common interest in the fusion of afro-cuban music, flamenco, and jazz brought the bandmates together at the Codarts conservatory in Rotterdam. The band comes in two sizes: the original quartet and a bigger version which includes more percussion and brass.
Antonio’s compositions combine his jazz background with straightforward melodies and groovy rhythms, that make the music both interesting for the jazz listeners and at the same time very enjoyable and danceable for any member of the audience. On stage LA Roffa Project aims to create this kind of atmosphere just like some of their biggest inspirations, for example Omer Avital, Jerry Gozález and Pablo Martín Caminero.
