ModulAfro
ModulAfro is an international latin-jazz band born and based in Rotterdam. The project pays homage to the Afro-Cuban Jazz interpreting modern arrangements of the milestones of this music, for instance Michel Camilo’s arrangements of Mambo Inn or other groundbreaking compositions like Claudia, Bebo by Chucho Valdes, as well as original compositions. Generally the band embrances the sonorities of the Modern Afro-Cuban Jazz, Timba Jazz and Cuban Fusion taking inspiration by bands such as Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez’s Italuba Quartet, Jerry Gonzales Y El Comando de la Clave, Tony Martinez and Cuban Power. The sound of the band is characterized by the traditional Afro-Cuban rhythms mixed with jazz melodies and harmonies enriched by unexpected moments of interaction between the members of the band.
